We evaluated the change of life history on cyanobacteria (single clone of Microcystis ichthyoblabe) in response to indirect exposure to submerged macrophyte (Elodea nuttallii) and Daphnia (Daphnia magna). pH of culture medium was decreased in both macrophyte and Daphnia treatment. Density and mean cell diameter of M. ichthyoblabe was decreased when it indirectly exposed to E. nuttallii. Otherwise, density was increased, but cell diameter did not changed when M. ichthyoblabe exposed to D. magna indirectly. Thus, the intercellular microcystin concentration per cells was decreased in macrophyte treatment. This study showed life history of cyanobacteria had different responses against macrophyte (as competitor) and Daphnia (as grazer), which can be applied and helpful to the management strategies for recovering lakes water where cyanobacterial blooms occurred.
