Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata is widely distributed across Asia and Oceania, and occurs basically on solanaceous plants. In several regions of Southeast Asia, however, some populations also occur on the fabaceous plant Centro (Centrosema pubescens), a species introduced from South America in the 19th century. In the preceding study with the beetles from Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, a gradual improvement of the ability to use Centro was observed during the past 10 years. In the present study, we investigated the host-use ability of H. vigintioctopunctata from some regions of Indonesia. There was evident inter-regional variation in the degree of differences in the ability to use Centro between the beetles collected on solanaceous hosts and Centro. This inter-regional variation may be caused by the difference in the amounts of gene flow between beetles associated with different host plants, and/or the difference of the time when the beetles started utilization of Centro.
