Taihu Basin plays an extremely important role in the social and economical development in China. It has been experienced a rapid change in ecological setting. With the economic and social development and the population increase, the pollutants increased duratively, resulted the water quality get worse with an approximate speed. And the rivers in the west of Taihu Basin (Wuxi city, Changzhou city) have high nutrient imports compared with other rivers. In this research, the spatial and Seasonal variation in the water chemistry of two typical rivers in the west of Taihu Basin were examined. Principal components analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were used to analyze the environmental factors associated with water quality changes, and the effects of anthropogenic activities on the accumulation of nutrients in the water of rivers. The spatial and seasonal variation in most nutrients was quite high and the patterns showed distinguished trend. Meanwhile, the Concentrations of nutrients in the water were mainly driven by anthropogenic activities, and this research suggests the integrative management technologies should be carried out to decrease pollutants input.
