企画集会 T08-2 (Lecture in Symposium/Workshop)
During these years, rapid expansion of the Argentine ant, Linepithema humile, has been a worldwide problem. In searching promising way for control of this ant species, we observed that their own cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs), when 100-fold concentrated, induced drastic repellent behavior of them. We further examined the effects of CHCs derived from a few ant species on behaviors of Argentine ant. The results showed that the Camponotus CHCs were quite effective to induce repellent behavior in the Argentine ant. In order to identify the essential components in the Campotnotus CHC blend, we divided the whole CHC components of C. japonicus into alkane and alkene groups and provided for the same behavioral test. Then, the alkene group of the Campotnotus CHCs induced the drastic repellent behavior in the Argentine ant.
