Evaluation and spatio-temporal simulation of the supply and demand of regional ecosystem services based on the rapid urbanization, a case study in Beijing

According to the available literatures, researches on ecosystem services are mostly from the supply perspective. While the essential objective of ecosystem services evaluation is to promote the sustainable development of nature-society-economy compound ecosystem, the supply-demand laws of ecosystem services coincide with the relationship between ecosystem services supportive ability for human and demand requirement from human, and then we can make adjustments for supply-demand unbalance. Regional eco-recreation services are the typical ecosystem services to ensure the quality of human life. In our research, we did a case study on eco-recreation services in Beijing, a rapid-urbanized city in China, in order to imply the supply-demand status and rules of eco-recreation services. Based on the questionaire surveys and related references, we established the supply and demand functions of eco-recreation services, implying the process and mechanism from services supply to value realization, and then analyzed the spatial pattern and multi-scale characteristic of eco-recreation services in Beijing. In the meantime, we made scenarios analysis and forecast under the urbanization progress, like LUCC, to imitate dynamically and visualize the changes of supply-demand of eco-recreation services, and tried to explore the way to enhance the decision-supportive role in regional sustainable development.
