S03-1 (Lecture in Symposium/Workshop)

Let's make a noise for bio-cultural diversity

Coordinator+Translator: ANKEI Yuji (YPU)

This symposium aims at “making noise”concerning the nuclear disasters of Fukushima Daiichi. Since March 11, 2011, code of silence has prevailed in academic societies of Japan. The Ecological Society of Japan is no exception. What are we afraid of? When are we going to utter our opinions? As an introduction to the presentations by challenging scholars who dared to speak aloud, I will introduce some examples from Kenya, Taiwan, and Japan for such attempts to “buy the silence” of the scholars and of the community. We are attempting to awaken our social responsibility as scientists with people attending this symposium. Email y@ankei.jp
