Invasive or not invasive: contrasting genetic structures of Yellow crazy ant and Weaver ant

*Yukiko ASAKA (Hokkaido Univ.)

There are two types of way to disperses: No-artificial dispersal, which have been dispersed themselves or by relationship between other species, and Artificial dispersal, which have been introduced by human activities including intended and not intended case. For the ant species is not exception. In the any Asian tropical countries, you may find two species of famous ant, Weaver ant and Yellow crazy ant. These two species are distributed almost overlapped all over the Asian tropical area, and considered to be the most relative genus each other. Moreover, their deep relationship between human activities is another thing in common of these two species. Weaver ant introduced into agriculture field for pest control, and people prefer to eat the ant itself in some countries. Yellow crazy ant is alien species considered to be dispersed by human activities and prefer to nest in the city area. We collected samples from all over the distribution area of these two species and perform the phylogenetic estimation using the mitochondrion DNA sequence data. Beside of these common features of two species, results of phylogenetic analysis show contrasting genetic structures which completely different each other. We will compare the speed and the way to disperse of two species and discuss the differences of invasive or not invasive species.
