Social engagement in citizen science and conservation practices by museum programs

Hiromune Mitsuhashi (Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo)

Natural history museums investigate regional flora, fauna and ecosystem dynamics, and collect specimens and biodiversity information. Based on research activities, we have performed to not only exhibits and educates but also ecosystem managements as out reach program collaborated with various stakeholders. We must achieve the self-purpose of the museum works (ex. collection, exhibition) and at the same time make capacity building of the citizen science through our activities. To engage the museum works and citizen science supports, variety of museum programs are combined and unified and triggered to self-learning and actions that contribute to the conservation and education leaderships. Especially, task of our museum is facilitation of ecosystem management by the collaboration with government, citizens and researchers. In this lecture, we explains the outline of the systematic educational program that engagement with citizen science, conservation program and knowledge of natural history museum.
