In Ecology, citizens often collaborate with researchers to help collect ecological data efficiently and comprehensively. Such a collaboration is supported by mobile applications that promote data collection in environmental, ecological and natural investigations. Mobile applications can be used to hold events to describe species occurrences in time and space together. We have developed a mobile application to collect environmental samples (MappEnv) to promote collaboration. At present, plant pictures are collected as environmental samples. The application enables users to take plant pictures with their sampled location. Its unique function is a set of designed scores to evaluate the participants’ movement during data collection. The scores and ranks of the scores among all the users are shared and notified, which will keep the users motivated and competitive. In this presentation, we will introduce the workshops for plant observations.
