However, for the reasonable use of limited space and time, we may ask you to change your presentation style (oral or poster).
We solicit oral presentations in English for providing ESJ members with opportunities to talk and discuss in English and also to communicate with those who do not understand Japanese. However, English presentations might be integrated into a session, regardless of the section classification below, if proposed English presentations are not sufficiently numerous.
For encouraging young scientists, we award a Prize for excellent poster presentations. See the section of Poster Prize below for details.

Session rooms are equipped only with an LCD projector (true XGA, resolution 1024 x 768) and a Personal Computer with Windows XP. No overhead projector and slide projector are available. Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer (PowerPoint 2003 on Windows) and Adobe Acrobat Reader are installed on the PC. The use of your own PC is not acceptable.

The Ecological Society of Japan (ESJ) awards a Prize to excellent poster presentations for encouraging young scientists. The award will be selected from posters by young scientists who entered for the contest. Applicants are asked to understand the purpose of the prize. Processes for selecting award winners will follow the rule applied in the 54th Matsuyama meeting. Details will be printed on the Program Book and posted on the official website. Please prepare your poster, taking care of the points shown in the document ¡ÈAbout the ESJ Poster Award.¡É
Abstracts of presentations should be submitted on the official website by Tuesday 8 January, 2008, 17:00. The entrance for abstract submission will be available from Monday 17 December, 2007. The abstracts should be shorter than 800 characters in Japanese or 1400 characters in English including the name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s). Details will be found on the official website.
In the 55th meeting, varieties of symposia and workshops are altered.
Proposals for symposia were closed on Friday 13 July, 2007. Now, organizers and the program committee are preparing for the symposia. Details will be posted on the official web site on September. New organized sessions and workshops Workshops have been unique events in the ESJ which have contributed to create a new field of research in the casual form and open-hearted atmosphere and satisfied diverse interests of the ESJ members. However, the workshops were informal and not included in the official program and the abstracts of individual talks were not published on the abstract book. In the 55th Fukuoka meeting, we newly establish ¡Èorganized sessions,¡É for holding as many sessions as possible in the official program. We also solicit proposals of usual workshops. Please choose an organized session or a workshop on the understanding of the difference between them.
Each organized session or workshop will be 2 hours.
They are planned on March 14th (Fri.), 15th (Sat.) and 17th (Mon.). It is highly probable that workshops are assigned time zones in the first day when some business meetings are held or the final day of the meeting.
Because of limited space and time for the meeting, we may be forced to decline your proposal. If too many workshops are proposed, the program committee will ask the organizers who submit multiple proposals to step aside. Next, we ask the symposium organizers to give up the proposals. If the number of proposed workshops still exceeds the expected, the program committee will determine winning workshops by lottery. The decision will be sent to the organizers by November 23, 2007 (Fri.) via e-mail.
One or two forums organized by some committees in the ESJ will be held. A forum is aimed at widely soliciting opinions of the ESJ members, allowing them to share common information, making general consensus among them through a broad discussion, on the theme the committees are concerned with. The organizers and panelists reserve the right to organize a symposium or give a presentation in some sessions.
Enjoy the banquet at Fukuoka Kokusai Center, the venue for the November Kyushu Sumo Tournament in the evening of Monday March 17, 2008. We can welcome many participants, since the venue is a 56m by 56m grand hall.
A day-care center will be open in the meeting place. Details will appear on the official website of the ESJ55.
A competition of footsal games, Ecocup 2008 is planned as a satellite program and managed by an independent organizing committee for Ecocup 2008. Details will appear on the official website.
We are asking some travel agencies to provide accommodation for the participants. Details will appear on the official website.
