In the warm-temperate zone of China, deciduous Quercus forest is predominant forest type, and this kind of forest also takes important position in other East Asian countries like Japan and Korea. In order to clarify the phytosociological characteristics of different Quercus forests in the warm-temperate zone of China, and also to understand its position in the vegetation classification system of Eastern Asia, this study surveyed 20 study sites and recorded 156 releves by using the Braun-Blanquet methodology; a syntaxonomical scheme for Quercus forests in the warm-temperate zone of China was identified. The classification result showed that three classes of Quercus forest can be distinguished in the warm-temperate zone of China: Quercetea mongolicae Krestov et al. 2006, Quercetea liaotungensis prov. You & Fujiwara 2008 and Quercetea variabilis class. nov.. De-trended correspondence analysis (DCA) was performed and the result showed that the classes classified are mostly related to elevation and climatic variables. Because the first two classes are mainly distributed in temperate zone, these always occur at high elevations in the warm-temperate zone of China. Moreover, the modelling result showed that the climate change could have significant impacts on deciduous Quercus forests in the warm-temperate zone of China.
