The carrying capacity of rangeland is frequently decreased in the area with the high grazing pressure. It will result degradation on composition of plant species and soil denudation.

The objective is to clarify tendency changes of plant species coverage and height in plant functional types along a grazing gradient of winter camp from north to south area of Mongolia. We hypothesized that the grazing intensity will differ among various ecological conditions from northern part to southern part of study area. Carrying capacity for grazing area is better on the north part than on the south part because ecological condition of the northern part is better than the southern part.

We selected 20 winter camps which has same grazing period, livestock numbers and same landform condition.

The field survey was completed in June-August 2009. 3 line transect was made along each winter camp which is 20 m distance for each line and 1600 m of length. There are 21 plot made on each transect on measurement distance (25, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 m). Each plot divided into 1x1m subplot and vegetation description of each subplot will be recorded.
