In order to clarify the influence of transported air pollutants on lucidphyllous forests in southwestern Japan, we analyzed growth pattern of trees for more than 10 years. Target species were Distylium racemossam, Percea thumbergii and some deciduous broad-leaved trees which were grown in lucidphyllous forests at both Aya (Miyazaki prefecture) and Yakushima (Kagoshima prefecture). We utilized monitoring data of LTER (Long Term Ecological Research), which were monitored during 16 years (1993-2009) for the Aya and 13 years (1996-2009) for Yakushima, and calculated relative growth rate of diameter at breast height (RGR) for each species and for every periods (Aya: 5 periods and Yakushima: 3 periods). The RGR were different between periods. However, apparent trend of decrease of the RGR were not recognized in the monitoring periods at the both sites. The time-series changes of the RGR showed resemble pattern within the site regardless the species, but not between the sites. These time-series patterns of the RGR did not seem to be air pollution in a wide area, but seemed to be due to site-specific factors, such as limited-area climate. These results did not suggest that there was apparent influence of air pollution from the continent on lucidphyllous forests in southwestern Japan, at the present.
