シンポジウム S08 -- 3月15日 9:30-12:30 H会場
Landscape ecology, emerged in Europe in the 1960s became academically recognized in the United States in the 1980s as a subject combined with the fundamental theory and its applications. Subsequently, a remarkable progress was made both in Europe and North America. One theory of landscape ecology, which is the incorporation of the space concept into the general ecology, has been highly evaluated. Today, its applications are indispensable in environmental administration. Europe boasts of its longest experience on landscape ecology development both in theory and applications. The U.S., on the other hand, has pushed the academic status of landscape ecology towards the global level. In this symposium, research achievements from such regions will be presented and their future perspectives will be discussed. South Korean and Japanese researchers will describe how landscape ecology progressed throughout Asia. The comprehensive/general discussion will aim to summarize the fundamental contribution of landscape ecology to the discipline of ecology. As a final point, international concerns, together with standardization of environmental administration policies will also be discussed on the global basis. Commentator: K. Hara (Tokyo University of Information Sciences)
