Despite of being a low carbon renewable energy technique, the wind power plant construction stimulus landuse change. Landuse change has high impact on the coastal zone. Wind power constructions are inclined to the degradation of ecosystems, species extinction, and inclusion of invasive species. This study evaluated the constancies of natural vegetation
of Zenibako Coast and croplands of the surrounding environment from 1976 to 2020 and the impact of long-term and short-term land use change due to anthropogenic activities. The main objective of this study is to analyze the impact of coastal landuse changes due to spatial installation patterns of wind power plant in between 2015 and 2020. Aerial photos were used for 1976 and satellite data of PLEIADES were used for 2015 and 2020 years.
Geographic Information Systems were used to analyze all data. Land types were classified using supervised classification techniques. Total 10 established wind power plants resultant the conversion of land from native vegetation to anthropogenic use. Zenibako coastal zone has experienced substantial landuse changes along with significant loss of herbaceous and
shrubland vegetation. As such, this is detrimental for natural coastal environments. Future land use policy could be targeted to promote sustainable development and conservation of ecosystem.
