シンポジウム S09 3月19日 13:00-16:00 Room D
The deep-sea is still an unexplored frontier area, but it is also known to be affected by various human activities such as resource exploitation. In 2020, a part of the deep-sea area within Japan's EEZ was designated as a Marine Protected Area (MPA), and is subject to management and conservation. Despite the growing knowledge on the assessment and conservation of biodiversity in deep-sea ecosystems accumulated in the field of geochemistry and other fields, there have been limited research reports on the deep-sea in the Ecological Society of Japan. In this symposium, we would like to share the latest research on understanding the mechanism underlying the biodiversity in the deep-sea ecosystems and its conservation, targeting a unique deep-sea ecosystem with a chemosynthetic ecosystem.
