Cycads comprise a lineage of gymnosperms that have retained ancestral biological and ecological features since its early origin in the Permian. To date, 371 extant species are recognized, and they can be found living in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. “How and why they have been able to adapt, persist and diversify in the modern ecosystems?” are questions that have been tackled from diverse approaches. Looking for answers becomes crucial, given the current threatened status of around 90% of the cycad species. This Special Feature aims to advance our knowledge on cycads, through compiling articles on current topics in evolution, ecology, systematics, physiology, anatomy, morphology, or conservation. We are looking forward to your contributions.
